Playfulness, intelligence, and creativity are at the core of everything Ayah has achieved.
As a child, she enjoyed taking her toys apart to investigate how they fit together and functioned. As she grew older, Ayah turned her love of engineering into something much more serious. After gaining a BA in Computer Engineering & Sociology, she attended the hallowed confines of MIT Media Lab, where she graduated with a Master of Science – and no doubt a wonderful network that will last a lifetime.
Her company LittleBits was founded in 2011. It produces realistic product pieces that snap together via magnets and are an amazing teaching tool for building inventive prototypes for both adults and children. They are fun, functional, and perfect tools for the imagination.
Over the recent past she has become something of a celebrity within the world of science – she was invited to mentor on the Stars of Science reality tv show. Rather more impressively (to us at least) LittleBits made the list of the top 10 startups on CNN. All of this goes to prove that you should never take the joy out of what you love to do.
LittleBits CEO and founder Ayah Bdeir thinks that everyone can invent and innovate as long as the technology is accessible. It’s a mindset that led to her founding LittleBits in 2011, which offers a range of maker kits of electronic modules.
