Yet, 26 Grains has not only survived but it has thrived and now operates two wonderful outlets in two of the coolest places in London to grab a bite to eat – Neal’s Yard in Covent Garden and Borough Market in Southwark.
Initially, Hely-Hutchinson set out to change people’s perception of grains via hearty pots of porridge with both whole and flaked grains that she combined with a range of different milks. This delicious breakfast was also partnered with wholesome natural ingredients such as cacao, maple, nuts, fruit and spice. It was a nod to the Scandinavian way of cooking, using grains and spices to create delicious and interesting dishes with minimal use of refined ingredients.
Her two restaurants still offer these amazing breakfast / brunch dishes, but the entire menu has been thankfully expanded to include lunch and dinner. The Scandi philosophy of the entire operation has not changed though. If you’re looking for a meal made from locally sourced food of the highest quality, cooked when in season and paired simply (and we have to say deliciously!) with a few complimentary ingredients, this is the place for you. One other thing – check out the drinks menu. There is an abundance of options – for wine lovers, beer lovers, cocktail aficionados, non-drinkers, and everyone else inbetween.
