From a very early age llana Taub was aware that there was an issue with the world around her, or rather more specifically, that our climate was in danger. Like any sane person, she thought that she should do something about it. Her first step was to tool-up, so she pursued an education in environmental technology. Through her studies, she became something of an expert in food waste, a serious issue given the sheer scale of the food that gets dumped.
Her first real job after graduating was working in sustainability at The Institute of Chartered Accountants, but doing something more active for the climate was never far from her mind . In 2013 Ilana became aware of the Middle Eastern practice of preserving fruit using a ‘blend and dehydration’ method. This was her lightbulb moment. This is how Snact started.
Following a good few years of development her company now markets a range of fruity snacks made from fruit that would otherwise have gone to waste for no reason other than it was misshapen or not perfect enough.
The world needs more individuals like Illana.
Ilana Taub, 33, co-founded Snact, which makes sustainable snacks from waste fruit, with her husband, Michael, 33, in 2013. She is mother to ten-month-old Evie.
